WHY NOT A GIRL?

People pray for boys not for a girl..
They desire a boy not a girl..
Blessing of an elder for a boy not for a girl
But..........
In need of wealth they pray to Goddess Lakshmi
In need of courage they go to Goddess Durga
In need of education they call upon Goddess Saraswathi.
Tell me now
Why do they hesitate to have
a Devi in the family?

This is a small poem which was written by my 8 year old daughter for her school magazine.  She wrote it when she heard from the maid about killing a girl child in her village.
